What is compressed black fungus?
Compressed black fungus is dried wood ear mushroom pressed into compact blocks. The format reduces storage volume and can support retail boxes, foodservice packs and distributor-repacking programs.
After soaking, the block separates into individual wood ear pieces. Buyers should evaluate the expanded product as well as the dry block because texture, thickness, appearance and usable yield affect the final application.
Specify the block and the rehydrated product
State the target block weight, dimensions and permitted weight tolerance. Reference programs may use approximately 20 g or 25 g blocks, but the commercial specification must match the selected SKU.
For rehydration, record the water temperature, soaking time, dry sample weight, drained weight and calculation method. A reference ratio such as at least 1:12 is meaningful only when the test method is consistent.
Turn quality language into measurable limits
Define ear thickness, moisture, ash, broken tolerance, foreign matter and expected color or appearance. A reference option may start at 1.5 mm thickness, while a thicker grade may use a 2.0 mm requirement.
Review representative dry blocks and rehydrated samples. Keep an approved sample or clearly identified photographs connected to the written purchase specification.
Confirm documents by factory and market
Ask for the product specification, ingredient statement, applicable test reports, origin information and current factory certificates. Certification scope must match the nominated manufacturing site.
For the United States, confirm any relevant facility-registration status without describing FDA registration as product certification or approval.
